How to Measure for Thermal Shields

MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Thermal Shields are custom made to your specifications and cannot be returned for incorrect customer ordering information.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, preferably 1/2" to 1" wide.
  • Indicate which measurement is the width and which is the height (length).
  • The width is always stated first in measurements and the height (length) is stated second.
  • Measure each window even though they may all appear to be the same size.
  • Examine windows and the immediate area for obstructions that would interfere with installation or operations: bracket installation (wood, metal, plaster, block, etc), drapery or shade hardware, crank posts, lights, signs, etc.

Thermal Shields will be shipped as a complete system, track and shield, ready to install as per your measurements. Easy-to-follow instructions are included.

  • Outside mount: mounted or installed on the face of the wall or window frame.
  • Inside mount: mounted or installed within the window casing or frame.

Windows or fixed glass: Thermal Shields can be fitted on just about any window, glass door or fixed glass area. Thermal Shields can be mounted inside casing or face mount. To measure for Thermal Shields, measure first the width of the area to be covered, and then measure the length you wish to cover. These measurements are for the wood track in which the shields glide. Factory will make all allowances in fabrication.

When measuring the width for an inside mount, measure at three places: TOP, CENTER and BOTTOM. [**IMPORTANT** When ordering YOU MUST indicate the SMALLEST of all three measurements for width!]

Sliding Door: Measure the area you wish to cover. Determine whether you want your door installation to be an inside or outside mount. It is your choice as long as the finished Thermal Shield does not interfere with the door's operation.

French Door: On a French door, shield must be measured as an outside mount with enough clearance to open the door without interfering with the track on either side. Also, there must be enough clearance on top to clear the door frame.
